Micropipette volume ranges

Laboratories usually stock a small set of air-displacement bodies whose nominal ranges overlap common P20 / P200 / P1000 work. Exact min/max is printed on the pipette; this page does not invent a calibration table.

How to read a range

The useful range is the interval printed on the pipette, not a nickname. “P20” in lab speech usually means a micropipette whose upper mark is 20 µL, but always confirm the scale on the instrument and in the SOP.

How labs typically cover a bench

  • Low-volume body for single-digit and low-teen microlitres
  • Mid-volume body around the 20–200 µL band
  • High-volume body around the 100–1000 µL band

Overlap is normal. Do not run a pipette at the extreme bottom of its scale when a smaller body exists — precision usually degrades there. For a buying list, send the volumes you actually pipette, not a brand slogan.

Tips must match the body

A P1000 tip on a P20 body is not a workaround. Specify tip length/filter needs with the volume range in the RFQ.
